Commodores Fitting Out Dinner Saturday 14th March 2019 (Important survey to obtain members feedback)
As you all know, we have our annual Commodore’s Fitting Out dinner on Saturday 16th March. We have in recent years employed an outside catering company to prepare the evenings feast, however prices are rising and it’s now approaching £30.00 per person. We could look at preparing the meal in house with John Rushmer and Tim Harrison happy to do this along with one other member. We could offer 3 dishes and a choice of desserts. Obviously the cost would be considerably less and it would be in line with the club’s self help approach.
I’ve opened a poll to receive feed back and help me make the decision which best suits the club and its members.
Please cast your votes by selecting the link above. John Rushmer (House Events Coordinator)
Request from the Mooring Master Mike Urand
We have a new suppler of galvanised chain for this year so hopefully the rust problem of the last couple of years will not be quite so bad. If you have chain at the moment and would like a rope mooring strop instead, or have a strop and would rather have chain, then please email me; email@example.com
Or call me for advice on 02380843654 if you are not sure what to have. If you want the same as last year, there is no need to contact me, and you should get the same as last season.
Training Courses Update
The RIB and JAFFA have now been winterised and must not be used before the start of the 2019 sailing season otherwise the winterising will be in vain. If a boat is needed then ELC is available.
A volunteer is sought due to the safety boats being in a grubby condition: a clean with detergent solution and brush is needed. The club are also seeking a safety boat custodian for 2019 to keep an eye on these important pieces of Club equipment and co-ordinate any remedial/maintenance work. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help with the cleaning of the safety boats or if you are volunteering to be a custodian over the 2019 season.

In the function room is a range of clothing examples for members to view and order with prices of the items displayed. There is also the option to choose from a large range in the catalogue from the supplier and all of these items can also have boat name and logo added. (Prices and ordering upon enquiry to email address email@example.com. All prices displayed on the order sheets are including the logo and VAT. When you order you can choose to have your boat name added at a very reasonable extra cost of £3 per item. Below are some photos of the clubs marketing range. The first order will be placed at the end of January so if you would like to receive your club clothing in that first order please email Sue/Viv or fill in an order form located in the function room and hand in to whomever is covering the bar.

This role would involve setting dates based on tides, recording any race results and contacting other clubs in the future to arrange some friendly competition at or away from the club. If you can assist with this role please email email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.

Tractor Drivers and Launch and Recovery changes in 2019
In 2019 the club will developing a web based booking system for your launch and recovery through the new website and volunteer tractor driver booking though duty-man. In this process we will be reviewing those on the authorised list to drive the tractors and expecting that those that are authorised volunteer to help launch or recover cruisers throughout the year (this would probably only be one day in the launch season and one day in the recovery season). The great thing about the tractor driving for launching now is that it counts towards participatory hours so a great way to get these completed. If you have a full car driving licence and wish to be shown how to use the tractors to help the club and our members please attend the tractor driver training session on the Sunday 13th January 1100 – 1500. Any training you receive on a launch or recovery day other than for your own cruiser also counts towards participatory hours.
There is good reason behind this process changing, the main one being that every year a small group of amazing members work solidly at launch and recovery times for sometimes up to 9 hours in a day over blocks of 6 or 7 days at a time and it is unfair to put such a burden on a few when we have so many members in the club who are on the authorised list. We as a club I am sure are grateful of all their hard work every year that costs nothing to our members where other clubs charge for each recovery or launch.
If you have any feedback about this proposed change please email me your concerns or feedback to email@example.com.
Club Gate Update
The motor is now with the fitters of the gate and as soon as it has been re-installed we will let members know. As far as we are aware at the moment it is unlikely to be refitted until after the New Year. In the meantime please remember your key for the side gate and padlock on the main gate.
Round the Island Race
The 29th June is the Round the Island Race. Through Facebook some members have expressed an interest in taking part in this big event on the Solent. If you would like to sign up to show an interest in this event please email Rob Watson at firstname.lastname@example.org and the Rear Commodore Sailing at email@example.com.
