Reminder about Safety on and around the Jetty: If you use the Club Launch, Safety Boats or your own boats please be mindful of your speed when approaching to come alongside or depart the jetty. With lots of members using the Jetty for launching tenders and coming alongside in their cruisers and sailing dinghies speed should be kept to minimum as you approach. Thank you in advance for your co-operation with this to prevent potential accidents.
Reminders regarding Cruiser Pound Spaces tidiness and Dinghy/Tender Identification: Members please check your Pound Spaces for any rubbish and items not on your trailers this is to ensure that when members move around boats there are no obstructions that could cause accidents. If items are left around your pound space they are likely to be removed and disposed of by the club. Also please ensure that if you have a dinghy it is named or marked in some way to assist in identifying the owner this includes tenders. Thank you in advance for your co-operation in following these club bye-laws.
Rear Commodore Sailing Role: Sadly Tim Harrison who has been Rear Commodore Sailing for two years in November is stepping down from the role at the AGM. I would like to thank Tim for using his spare time to support the club and successfully plan events and manage the Sailing section of the club for the past two years. Based on this if you have an interest in this role and helping the club please fill in the form below and Tim and I will be in touch to talk you through what the position entails.
Rucksack Found in the Pound: Andrew Rance found a small rucksack near Miranda today, containing a mobile phone, a hat and a small amount of cash. The phone was dead, and there was nothing to identify the owner. He took it home as he thought it might have been Jackie’s, but she knows nothing about it. Andrew and Jackie will be back at the club on Saturday, and possibly Sunday, and can bring it with us, or contact them directly on 07415 160777 or 02380 845970.
Participatory Hours available: The club are looking for members help to deep clean the bar area and clean the Freezer in the galley at the club. Also the Marquee Roof needs to be put back on ready for a member private event on the 25th of July. If you are available to help out with this please contact Joe Gallacher or fill in the form below. Thank you.
Congratulations to Timothy Long winner of the Round the Island Trophy and Club Award: After difficult wind conditions on the Round the island Race the five boats from Team HSC like many others could not make it over the finish line this year. In amongst the boats was Timothy Long (14 years of age) on 19 foot Isabella. This young member is exactly what the club is about and deserved the recognition of taking part in such a challenging race and was therefore presented with the Club Award and Trophy at the Open Day. From what I hear he has bigger plans for the future involving a Youngest Person Sailing around the UK challenge, updates to follow. Well done Timothy!
Club Balcony Update: Good news the balcony is now finished a massive thank you for all those that helped to complete, plan and manage this project in time for Open Day.
Mocktails and Cocktails Evening 6th July: Thank you John and Nikki for running this event it was good fun and the Cocktails were very tasty.
Open Day 2019 Update: Thank you all members who helped out on the day to make it a fun and enjoyable event. The good news is that the event generated 14 new memberships and we successfully took 80 members of the public on the water in Cruisers, Dinghies and the Club Launch. Because of your hard work on the day we again showed off what self help is all about to the local community and further afield. Special thanks to Julie Stanley for organising the safety of our guests and trips out on the water, the Dinosaurs Club Band and all those that ran stalls raising money for the RNLI and the Social Fund.
Jetty Project Update: The delivery of Greenheart Timber has arrived ready for beginning the Jetty Project in October. Thank you members who helped unload the wood today. This project is projected to take approximately two years to complete but may be sooner dependant on how we progress over the winter period. The next stage is to build a pontoon float to be able to work on the replacement support structure, more new on this too follow.
