Dinghy Sailing
Dinghy
The club has a number of sailing dinghies that are available for recreational sailing, training and racing in club events, including Wayfarers, Picos, and other boats.
We offer:
- Free training with membership
- Free use of club boats for RYA level 2 in club events
- Dinghy Storage
We have a fantastic team of volunteer RYA qualified Instructors and Senior Instructors and we are very keen to help new sailors to learn the ropes easily in a fun supportive atmosphere.
We tend to arrange a minimum of 4 to 5 training weekends per year in which we offer free training to club members and their children using our fleet of club owned boats which include Picos, Lasers, Fusions and Wayfarers.
If you join the club, you would be most welcome to take part, the weekends are lively, with up 15 boats on the water and up to 25 trainees, parents, kids and adults. We practice on-water skills, usually in two groups, beginners and improvers and often end the day with a drink and BBQ. Once trainees feel able, we encourage them to join in our general sailing activities using our club boats. These events are mostly based around the club’s dinghy racing program, Sailing activities take place regularly depending on tides and the time of year.
As an RYA training centre, we follow all their safety protocols and have up to three rescue boats with fully qualified crew supervising our training activities. We have a process of monitoring progress and are able to issue certificates for the junior and adult sailing schemes of the RYA.
As a volunteer run club, we expect parents to remain on-site and either join in with the training or assist in the many different activities necessary to make a successful training day.
Do email me if you would like more information about our training program.
